Referencing a dropped pin the #Phoenix Observation Tower by #BjarkeIngels is beyond #AR

Located in downtown Phoenix, the 70,000 sf #Observation_Tower shall add a significant structure to the Phoenix skyline from which to enjoy the city’s spectacular views of the surrounding mountain ranges and dramatic sunsets. Phoenix-based developer #Novawest , commissioned the team to create a destination event to provide tourists and citizens of Phoenix alike the chance to enjoy the unique features of the Valley of the Sun.

Ben van Berkel, UNStudio talks about the #Canaletto_Tower in #London

Canaletto Tower is the latest in a long list of residential buildings for #UNStudio . It is based on the idea of #Streets_in_the_Sky .

Ben van Berkel
"The first architects that were fascinated with this idea of the Street in the Sky were the Smithsons, and the reason why it failed was because they weren’t attractive. They were harsh in terms of material, organization, they were alienating and not inviting nor safe, which is way many of these semi public spaces are now abandoned."

#Ben_van_Berkel
"Architecture is just background. The beauty of architecture is that it brings people together and can create public constructs. Once you know how to make this work you can also make it attractive, not only in its image but also in it’s after image. It becomes something that people can come back to and reanalyze."

Specifically the #Bolshoy Ice Dome in #Sochi stands out with its giant roof screen.

The Bolshoy Dome, a 12,000-seat venue also inspired by the Russian’s iconic #Faberg egg, was built to host the ice hockey events. After the Games, the dome will serve as an “ultra-modern, world-class multi-purpose sports and entertainment center.”

Minimod by #architect #MAPA in Rio Grande Sul #Brasil , provides alternative living space

The production is carried out in a prefabricated manner and enjoys the steel frame system technology, which lets the client adapt the space to his needs, choosing among different finishes, as well as automation options.

#Clark_Art_Institute by #architect #Tadao_Ando & #Selldorf

The beautiful #pools are designed by Tadao Ando and are a unifying element for the campus and its surroundings, the pools orchestrate a unified composition. The Clark Center terraces overlook the uppermost pool, which reflects views of wetlands and woodland beyond as visitors arrive.

Proposed #Phoenix Observation Tower by #BjarkeIngels of #BIG

“Like the monsoons, the haboobs and the mountains of the surrounding Arizonian landscape, the Pin becomes a point of reference and a mechanism to set the landscape in motion through the movement of the spectator. Like the Guggenheim museum of New York offers visitors a unique art experience descending around its central void, the motion at the Pin is turned inside-out allowing visitors to contemplate the surrounding city and landscape of Phoenix. Like a heavenly body hovering above the city the Pin will allow visitors to descend from pole to pole in a dynamic three dimensional experience seemingly suspended in midair.“ Bjarke Ingels, Founding Partner, BIG.
